Coach Tommy Lake is the only coach in Hawaii high school history to win girls titles in both the OIA  and ILH . He coached Na Menehune to the 2007 OIA D-1 championship and in 2018 , the Mid-Pacific Institute Owls to the ILH Division II Championship.

His signature calm demeanor, accompanied with his extensive knowledge of the game of volleyball is what sets him apart from the rest. Coach Tommy spends many hours outside of the gym studying, engaging in conversation, reviewing compliance so he can bring his fresh knowledge to the court. Along with Missy and his big entourage of support staff, his teams never have a shortage of quality coaches.  Season 2021  for girls varsity volleyball features veteran Coach Clyde Kobayashi and a new valuable edition to the coaching staff James Adamos.

Our current players at Mid-Pacific Girls Varsity Volleyball are Sarae Miguel and Kalei Lyons.

There are elite volleyball programs in Hawaii high schools.

There are teams that suit up and are quite satisfied simply to participate. Then, there is the Mid-Pacific girls volleyball team. Veteran club and high school coach Tommy Lake and staff have built momentum, enough for the Owls to give powerhouse Punahou a good battle before losing on Saturday, 25-18, 25-21 at Mills Gym.

“I’m really happy for the team. All the players have worked long and hard on this volleyball journey. Giving the seniors a chance to battle, you can’t ask for a better ending to their high school experience,” Lake said.

Senior Alyssa Muraoka sets the tone. The Portland signee delivered 14 assists and added one ace in the Punahou match.

“Besides running the offense, she is one of the most instinctual defenders ever to play at MPI,” Lake said.

Debbie Chun, who will play at Lewis and Clark, led the Owls with six kills, adding eight digs.

“She is a triple threat, one of the best passers, defenders and attackers,” Lake said.

Luna Suzuki, a who will attend NYU, had four kills.

“Luna is our most powerful outside hitter, a good blocker, dynamic and athletic,” Lake said.

Erin Goya led the Owls with 10 digs against Punahou. Goya will attend Seattle U.

“Erin is our best defender and passer, and has great leadership abilities,” Lake said.

Lake is also optimistic about sophomore Makela Pick.

“She is a true all around athlete that is playing middle, but is so versatile, she could play almost anywhere,” he said. “A real bright future.

Kalei Lyons, who had two blocks against Punahou, will attend Lee College (Texas).

Mid-Pacific will visit ‘Iolani next week (Mar. 30). Spectators are not allowed. All ILH matches are streamed live.

Tonight under extreme conditions at Damien High School Head Coach Tommy Lake ( Hana Hou 18’s Coach) and his staff claimed Mid-Pacific first ever ILH title. With support from “Da Keala Roofing Company” the owls claimed a 21-25, 25-17,25-22,25-23 decisive victory over the Damien Monarchs. With a buffet of defensive and offensive arsenals at their disposal the owls secured the division II championship and secured the crown from the monarchs.

Kaehu Keala put down a season-high 25 kills with three blocks to power the Owls (13-2) to their 10th straight win. The Owls can proudly “toot” their horns loudly as they beat Damien twice in a week.

All of the players of the Mid-Pacific Girls Varsity Volleyball  Team contributed to this historic event. The club would like to take the time to recognize all the people that made this happen.  Hana Hou Volleyball Club Coaches Tommy, Missy, Clyde, Ryan and coach Lynden. Coach Tommy Lake is the only coach in Hawaii high school history to win girls titles in both the OIA  and ILH . He coached Na Menehune to the 2007 OIA D-1 championship.

Lake's veteran leadership is starting to make Mid-Pacific into a known volleyball commodity.

The Owls went into the ILH tournament as underdogs but today that tag no longer applies.  The only tag for them is "CHAMPIONS"

The team enters into a different phase as the seated #1 team in their division next week and we wish them the best of luck. The club looks forward to a promising season with coach Tommy bringing his championship talents and knowledge to Hana Hou. His line will be long so register early.
